How Can Chiropractic Care Help You?

Chiropractic care can help to relieve pain and improve function. Chiropractic care is a safe and effective treatment for patients experiencing many conditions including headaches, neck pain, low back pain, knee pain, hip pain, wrist pain, and more! Chiropractors use chiropractic manipulation to introduce motion into the joints of the spine and extremities, also called a chiropractic adjustment.

Initial Visit

At your first visit, your doctor will evaluate your medical history and perform a physical exam to determine what may be causing your symptoms. This exam will help the doctor determine if chiropractic care may help to improve your symptoms.

In some cases, your chiropractor may request an X-ray to help them visualize your spine to better determine what may be causing your symptoms. Imaging findings do not always correlate with pain and symptoms, but it can help to give a better clinical picture of your condition. In many cases, X-rays are not needed at all.

What to Expect during the Adjustment

Your chiropractor will instruct you to lie on the comfortable specialized table in different positions in order to allow them to best adjust the joints that need to be adjusted. There are many different techniques they may use to apply a gentle force to the affected joints in order to introduce motion. You might hear a crack or a popping sound when the joint is adjusted. This is perfectly normal and is simply gasses being released from the joint capsule as motion is introduced!

After the Adjustment

Everyone responds differently to a chiropractic adjustment. Some patients may experience temporary discomfort like soreness and stiffness. Do not worry - it is normal, usually mild, and usually decreases within a day! Other patients may experience improvement immediately after the adjustment.

Follow-up Visits

At the initial exam, your chiropractor will develop a treatment plan based on your specific presentation. This will typically include 1-2 visits per week for the first 3-4 weeks of treatment which will be reduced in the following weeks based on your individual progress.
